"Smithsonian
Folkways Recordings believes the music with which
our children are raised will influence them for the rest of their
lives.
We carry awide array of children's recordings including music
by
Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Suni Paz, and Ella Jenkins, Folkways

celebrated children's performer. Our recordings are an invaluable
resource for parents and teachers."

"One surprise on the collection is 'Los Pollitos/The
Chicks,' sung by
SuniPaz. My daughter loves this song because her baby sitter always
sings it to her -- I imagine her mother sang it to her when she
was a
child. The song, which is about little chicks who cry when they're
hungry, is sung in both Spanish and English. My baby sitter likes
to
listen to it because it helps her learn English, and I like to
because I
learn some Spanish. For my daughter and other children, I think,
the song is a great way to learn both languages."
Sarah Seager/ Mother's Who Think
After a performance, I usually
receive letters and cards, from California and other states, from students
(K to 6) and their teachers or librarians. I have kept the students'
spelling as written. Most works come illustrated with portraits of
myself, flags, pictures of my instruments, the stage, costumes, etc.
I enjoy answering them. Through Performing Tree, for several
months I taught a special music and culture class at Janson Elementary
School. When the term was up, I received wonderful and moving farewell
books- too many to print. The messages (preserved complete with splendid
errors) and the colorful drawings were artistic and fun, grateful,
full of love for my music and songwriting. I'm very grateful to the
Principal, the teachers and the students.- Suni Paz |

Public Libraries say"I'm supporting your nomination for a Schools and Culture Award...the teachers tell us that the students came away entranced with the music, which they sang all afternoon in their classrooms...the songs became the starting point for essays and drawings as well. Your programs were rich cultural experiences. The children participated enthusiastically from their seats and on stage where they took turns performing in costume...they absorbed valuable cultural information as well...the children came away with a pride in being bilingual-bicultural Americans and a warm feeling for the public library as a place where books and songs came alive." The Queens Borough Public Library, Jamaica, New York Alan Wagner, Assistant Head New Americans Project Suni did a terrific job of including everyone.
She got children of all ages (and some parents!) playing music and
dancing...she also encouraged literacy and use of the library...Suni
is a wonderful resource. We will definitely have her back!
